What do we mean when we speak of “our country”?

Patriotic words when we are at war?

We wave our flag and our enemy we abhor

Where is patriotism in an economical decline?

The poor we blame and malign

It was the wealthy that got us in this mess

And it seems like so many could care less if the poor are on the verge of homelessness

Isn't it logical to say if all our citizens are strong than our country is strong?

Moving in the opposite direction is logically wrong

If all people thrive then logically a country thrives?

If we lift people up compassionately we become more alive

Or we could be selfish and see things through closed minds

People make a country

Maybe I’m just a patriotic junkie

But it seems that some people only raise their flag in times of war

When a bomb drops they cheer and roar

And some react to it like it is a sporting event

Lack of compassion

Replaced with malcontent

Does corporate America have that much control?

We do the work

We pay the toll

Do they own too much of our time?

That we don’t even notice a war crime

With lazy thought, they oppress

Causing compassion to be repressed

And the media doesn't show any form of protest

For if the masses awoke

We’d take back our country that those greedy bastards broke

So tell me what does country mean to you?

“Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country,” JFK

Or as some put it so bluntly

All for me

Corporate hungry!
